Lucid Dreaming Challenge Failure

Well my lucid dreaming dry spell continues…

Despite doing daily meditation, going out for walks, getting sunlight and doing reality checks for a full month – I did not have any lucid dreams. I even tried experimenting with supplements towards the end of the challenge, but that didn’t bring any success unfortunately.

I think I was doing all the right things, but due to the change and stress that I am going through right now, I think that has played a big part in my dream recall and ability to lucid dream. During the challenge I had some interesting experiences and the supplement that I was experimenting with really helped with my dream recall which I will talk about in another post at a later date.

During the lucid dreaming challenge I experienced the following; dreaming about dream recall, dreaming of waking up, yet I was still in a dream, having a dream with a dream character mentioning lucid dreaming, thinking about doing reality checks or the reality check just not working in the dream.

Because of these experiences I was having in my dreams, it felt like I was making progress, but I just wasn’t able to get lucid in any of my dreams. Despite failing the challenge, I am going to continue my practice. Meditation and reality checks have really helped in the past with lucid dreaming and I think I’m just experiencing so much change and stress that it has been disruptive to my dreaming overall.

As always, I will continue to post my thoughts and experiences on lucid dreaming and astral projection.

Endings & Beginnings

I sense greatly that my internal landscape is shifting. There is destruction, therefore there is an ending. With an ending, there will be of course a new beginning. The big question really is, what is that new beginning?

I’ve gone through this many times before in my life, but they seem to just get bigger and bigger I suppose. I’m referring to the growth periods. And I guess that is the way it should be right? You want to progress with your goals and dreams. If the metaphorical mountains get smaller and easier, how might you achieve those bigger aspirations?

When something is ending in your life, but the new thing has not yet manifested – you feel like your are in this state of limbo. You are in the unknown. I’ve gotten pretty familiar with this experience, however, even with all my past experiences, it still can be difficult.

That in between stage is strange because you think about what you are leaving behind and you also think about what is next. That makes it difficult to be present through the transition. That is why I meditate more when I am experiencing a lot of growth or transformation.

Sometimes it is just a matter of surrendering, relinquishing control and just trusting that things will work out. The past is already gone and the future isn’t here, but I do have today. I have right now. And I trust myself.

Meditate More

Lately I have been having the urge to meditate more. All I have really been doing in my recent meditations is getting grounded and running a lot of earth energy through my energy system. I like the feeling of being present. I like feeling the weight of my body and having those brief moments of not having any thoughts. I am simply just being. I love it.

Aside from just enjoying meditation, another reason I am increasing how often I meditate is to boost my chances on having lucid dreams. I am doing a 30 day lucid dreaming challenge mainly to motivate myself and inspire others to lucid dream. I have not had any lucid dreams yet during this time period, however, I feel as though I am close. I have had dreams about dream recall and I have had dreams about lucid dreaming. Prior to and during this 30 day challenge I have been experiment with various supplements to increase my chances of having lucid dreams. I will talk about that more in another blog when I finish my experiment.

Recently I have been trying out a new work schedule which allows me to work one hour then take an hour break. From there I just keep alternating from working a full hour then taking another hour long break. Anyway, during my breaks I take some time to meditate. By doing this it makes mediation much easier in my opinion, because I am constantly moving energy throughout my body.

My three pillars of health are nutrition, exercise and meditation. To me these are very important. I’m never perfect with these, but I always try to do my best. I think health is much more than this though. I think your environment, the people you interact with, and whether or not you are pursuing your truth can also play a big part in your health.

Meditation gives me the ability to manage my emotions, clear my mind, heal myself and to learn more about myself. It is a way for me to work on having clarity, certainty and seniority in my own life. Meditation is very much like exercising. If you spend months getting physically fit and then suddenly stop going to the gym – you are going to lose it. Same with meditation. It is something you have to do daily. I don’t like the feeling of being stuck and this is why I meditate more.

Workamping Opportunity

My wife and I have our appointment scheduled to drop our RV off at the repair center. If everything goes well then we will head southwest to Arizona for the fall / winter, but we will not be going to Tucson. There are two main reasons for this change: 1) I found a workamping opportunity in Phoenix. 2) I found a cheaper and better music studio to practice at!!!!!!

So what is this workamping opportunity all about? Well, basically I will work for the RV resort 2 days per week (16 hours) and that will cover our rent and utilities. Not bad and I can still work online teaching English. So, what do I have to do at the RV resort? Just general housekeeping – they need help with cleaning up in common areas. Easy enough in my opinion…

Now for the music – I found a music studio that has a cheap hourly rate and I can not only practice singing, I can practice other instruments as well, including drums! Super excited about this.

I really want to get more serious about practicing music and I realize that being consistent will be key. So in the future we may reduce the amount of time we actually travel, so I can be in a major city and have access to a music rehearsal space. The beauty of this idea is that we can be in the south for the winter avoiding the snow, then go check out some national parks in the Spring before the crowds get there and then go park somewhere and get right back to music for the rest of the summer.

Dealing with the RV slide not working and trying to figure out how I can incorporate music into my life has been stressing me the hell out, but I finally figured out a solution. I know that when I’m ready to start a band or join a band I will have to make some changes, but I definitely won’t be ready for that anytime soon.

Dreaming of Dream Recall

The other night I had a dream of flying. I found myself outdoors and there was this wolf character near me. I looked over at a small garden and noticed some pottery with different images and names on them. I found one that had the word “wolf” on it and I pointed it out to the wolf character. I then ran off and lifted off the ground. I had some difficulty continuing to fly for only a second, which does happen to me from time to time, but then I figured it out and quickly flew away at a very high speed. I was flying so fast I could hardly recognize anything. I eventually woke up.

Even though I wasn’t lucid in that dream it was still a lot of fun. Some of my favorite actives in dreams involve flying and telekinesis. I’ve experienced them more so in regular dreams than lucid dreams. I do think that when I do fly or do something like telekinesis, I have a slightly raised awareness in the dream state, but I’m just not aware of the fact that I am dreaming.

Recently, but on a different night I dreamt of looking at a pad of paper that had a list on it. When looking at it I was aware that it was a list of dreams or goals that were desired to be manifested. Near each goal was a dollar amount. Later on I found myself in a room by myself and clearly had the thought in my mind that should recall my most vivid dream. Before I actually could recall my most vivid dream, I woke up.

I have dreamt about lucid dreaming. I have dreamt about astral projection. And now I have dreamt about dream recall. In most of those experiences, ironically I never became lucid. All I can really do is just laugh at it, but it just goes to show you that when we are in the dream state, we truly believe that it is our reality. At least until we wake up…

I have not had a lucid dream or conscious out of body experience since starting my 30 day lucid dreaming challenge, but I feel I am making progress. One main goal for my next lucid dream is to prolong the lucid dream, so that I can have more “time” to experiment.

Lucid Dreaming Challenge

Okay so I though it would be cool to start a lucid dreaming challenge for beginners. I know how frustrating it can be when you are not getting the results you want. So whether you are brand new to lucid dreaming or are still in the process of learning – feel free to join in on this challenge!

This is going to be a 30 day challenge, so buckle up and get ready for some lucid dreams!

Each day do the following:

  • Every time you wake up from sleeping, keep your eyes closed, remain still and recall your dreams.  Then quickly write down your dreams in a journal.
  • Meditate in the morning for as long as you want. I recommend focusing on getting grounded and being present. Here is a video I created that you can check out if you are new to meditation. Grounding & Gold Sun Meditation
  • Perform 20 reality checks throughout the day. I recommend asking yourself the question, “Am I awake or am I dreaming?” After that try putting your fingers from one hand through the palm of your other hand. If they go through then you are dreaming, however, if they do not go through, then obviously you are awake. Follow up with on more reality check. Pinch your nostrils and try breathing. If you feel air going through your closed nostrils then you are most likely dreaming, however, if you do not, then that means you are awake. I know this seems like a lot but it really does not take that long to do.
  • Get 10-30 minutes of sun light. If it is your day off then this should be pretty easy, however, if you are working during the day, try to use one of your breaks to get some sun exposure.
  • Do some form of exercise; walking, lifting, biking, running, yoga, etc.
  • Do an evening meditation that focuses on two things: 1) Letting any negative energy go that you may have experienced from your day. 2) Mock-Up a lucid dream through visualization. Lucid Dream Mock-Up Meditation
  • Before you go to sleep, look at your hands and tell yourself that you will see your hands in your dreams and realize that you are dreaming.
  • As you fall asleep, set the intention that you will have a lucid dream and will remember your dreams.
  • If you are an adult get at least 7-9 hours of sleep.

I understand that this may seem a lot, but if you are really wanting to have lucid dreams, then I feel this would be a great way to do so. Cutting Bullsh!t from my body and Life

It recently just hit me how much bullshit that I have been eliminating from my body and life. Here is a list of things that I have been cutting out in the past two years:

  • meat
  • dairy
  • alcohol
  • coffee
  • twitter
  • facebook
  • instagram

Cutting out coffee and social media out is a new thing for me. Quitting coffee was to see how it would affect my quality of sleep and to be honest I did not notice a difference, however, after going through the caffeine withdrawal, I decided I did not want to experience that again so I just stopped drinking coffee. I haven’t been perfect though… In the past few weeks I have had some wine and coffee and I then remembered why I stopped in the first place.

At one point with social media my goal was to stop using my personal accounts and just use different platforms to promote my brand, but now I have decided to just let it all go. I am content with just having a blog, podcast and youtube channel. That is more than enough for me.

The next thing I am wanting to work on is reducing how much content I consume. I love youtube, but you can easily spend way too much time hopping from one video to the next. What I really need to be focusing on is creating. I am a creator, so I should be creating!

It is so weird to think that I started this blog and my youtube channel two years ago. I think most people would probably say, “maybe it’s just time to quit…” My wife and I are currently staying in a house temporarily as we save up to repair our RV. Since we are not moving, it is allowing me to sit back and reflect more on where I started and the direction that we are heading. I love writing, talking about lucid dreaming, having adventures, singing, photography, etc. I just want to keep doing what I am doing.

I still have a lot to work on in regards to getting healthier and making progress on my dreams, but in general, I feel better cutting out the things listed above.

In a World of Green

I feel so much change happening within myself lately. My wife and I are currently in Iowa on a farm saving up to get our slide fixed on our RV. It’s not a cheap fix, so it will take a few months for us to get it fixed. In the short time that we have been here, music has been starting to explode out of me. It just hit me one night and I felt the need to sing. It wasn’t even really a desire, it was more of a need to just release. Music is healing, is it not?

I have felt so stuck in regards to music. I think I have been lying to myself. Telling myself that it’s okay to let music go if I work on other dreams. And while I have a great affinity for my other dreams in life, music is just one of those things that won’t stop haunting me. Let’s just say, that it is the scariest dream that I have this life. It is the one that excites me the most, but is the most terrifying. I think that just means that I need to stop ignoring it and just face the music (ha ha). I need to confront the fears inside of me and just go for it.

With that said, if you are subscribed to the youtube channel you can expect to see more music videos coming out, primarily of me just doing covers. Hopefully over time I will get comfortable enough to start creating my own music. I just need to build my confidence up.

Because of all the stress and the change happening it has negatively affected my lucid dream practice. I am still writing in my dream journal though. That is one thing that I have kept up on.

So, once the RV is fixed, it will already be Autumn and be getting cooler, so we will have to head south for the winter. While I am sad that we didn’t get to see some of the national parks in the North West United States this time around, I am excited that I am making a return to music.

RV Travel & Practicing Lucid Dreaming

I discovered lucid dreaming while traveling in an RV throughout the United States. A bulk of the time that I spent practicing lucid dreaming I was in Southern California for the winter. Since it is no longer cold, my wife and I have been traveling more. Normally we spend a month in one place and then move on, however, for the past two weeks we have been traveling much more quickly than that.

What I have noticed for me is that if I increase how quickly I am traveling, my lucid dreaming practice seems to suffer. The same goes for my meditation & exercise routine. Also what I have noticed is that the more stress I experience the worse my dream recall is. We had some very strange and unfortunate experiences while traveling recently…

My wife and I took the RV down to Vegas for a job event that she got to speak at. While we were there the AC cut out which was not good because it was 110 degrees Fahrenheit! I managed to get the AC back on but it would eventually shut off. This happened a few times until I decided to give up and just open the door and windows and turned the fans on. We have a cat and dog and I had to use frozen fruit and vegetable bags from the freezer to cool them down. Once the sun went down and the temperature dropped a little, the AC was able to stay on.

The next morning around 4:00 AM I woke up to a strange smell. I thought it was propane and was concerned that maybe our cat hit the knob on the stove to activate the propane, however that was not the case. I then realized that it was coming from our black tank which was heated up from the weather the day before. So, I went outside and started draining our black tank. For those that don’t know what the black tank is, it is where the RV toilet waste goes. I had to adjust the sewer line which is in two pieces and when I did that it disconnected and the toilet waste started pouring all over the concrete slab that our RV was parked on. Holy Shit! Can things get any worse than this? Yes, apparently they can….

On our way back to Wyoming we blew out a tire. My amusement was running low, but we did manage to replace the flat with our spare tire pretty quickly. But that wasn’t the end of our strange series of events! When we arrived to our RV park in Rawlins, Wyoming and tried putting out our slide, but it was not able to go out. It was starting to feel like I was in a nightmare. Sure I get frustrated with living in an RV from time to time, but this is also my dream and it felt like my dream was fading. Living in an RV means living in a small space. Living in an RV with a slide that can’t extend out is just no good, especially if you have pets. Fixing an RV slide is not a cheap fix. Uncertain of what we were going to do we continued on to our RV Park near Devils Tower. I thought the chaos was over, but…

It was night and I was teaching online. My wife came into the office and mentioned something about a tornado warning. I thought okay, that’s not good, but nothing will probably happen so no worries, right? Well I went outside to take a look and it was raining a little bit, but then it turned into hail. I thought well, that’s not good. Some time passed and the wind and rain picked up.

“Tornado Warning, Tornado Warning,” said the mans voice over the loud speaker. My wife and I got our pets, got in the truck and headed to the local bar which had a basement. Heather took Thor and Lucy downstairs with her while I stood outside in front of the bar watching and waiting with some of the locals. Lightning struck and the power went out. I realized then that I was probably getting released from my teaching slots for the night because I was inactive. I was informed that a tornado touched down in a nearby town, but nothing ever happened where we were.

We eventually got the all clear and returned to our RV Park and luckily the electric turned back on when we arrived. Aside from our terrible internet reception here, that seemed to be the end of our string of bizarre events.

So aside from traveling more often, situations like these do not help with help with having low stress levels. When stress is high, my dream recall ability goes to shit. I did, however, have a rather interesting experience this early morning…

I was having a regular dream and I eventually found myself in a bed at the house I grew up in. I seemed to be waking up in the bed and then I started to perform a reality check. My hand went through my other hand. It was strange because in the dream I felt as though I was waking up, yet I experienced my hand going through my other hand which confirms that I am dreaming. I just thought that it was too late to experience a lucid dream because I was waking up and would no longer be sleeping.

Bam! The sound of the door to the bedroom in our RV slid open and I saw my wife rushing to the bathroom. I then realized, oh, that was a dream. Now I am actually awake.
